Individuals or couples who are awarded fellowships receive the following benefits:

  • A Cullman Center Fellow is paid up to $70,000 annually and receives an office, a computer, and full access to the Library’s physical and electronic resources on grant.
  • Fellows are required to work at the Center for the duration of their fellowship, which is from September to May.
  • Each Fellow provides a lunchtime discussion to the other Fellows and a wide spectrum of invited guests about current work-in-progress, and may be asked to participate in other activities at The New York Public Library.

Eligibility for Scholarship:

Applicants must meet the following eligibility requirements:

  • Get a prior degree.
  • Those whose native language is not English are normally asked to show proof of English proficiency at the University’s higher level.
  • Up to 15 fellowships are awarded each year by the Cullman Center’s Selection Committee to distinguished researchers and writers, including academics, independent scholars, journalists, and creative writers. Applicants who are fluent in English are encouraged to apply.
  • Applicants who must work primarily in The New York National Library’s other research libraries—the Library for the Performing Arts, the Schomburg Center for Research in Black Culture, and the Science, and Business Library—as well as candidates who must work primarily in The New York Public Library’s other research libraries—the Library for the Performing Arts, the Schomburg Center for Research in Black Culture, and the Industry, Science, and Business Library—are not eligible for this fellowship.
